My Pet Battle PvP Plan

Gnome with Naeeemantie at Hearthstone

I pet battle PvP’ed for a while. I think I’ve won a little over 170 level 25 battles. With a ridiculously horrible win-loss ratio. I gave up pretty much a year ago. I think the PvP system is basically completely broken. I really would LOVE to PvP more, given the right conditions, and I believe there are a LOT of potential pet fanatics out there who either got discouraged early on, or won’t try because they know the system is broken. I give you the popularity of Hearthstone – and confess that most of my points below are stolen almost directly from that system.

  1. 1. There HAS to be a ranking system for random battles. One level 3 pet is not like just any old level 3 pet. Most of the newer and rarer pets are FAR stronger than for example the mouse found in Silvermoon city.  When you are just starting out, or dabbling, or seeing what all the fuss is about, it’s almost impossible to win against some more seasoned teams. Even when you are a serious (obsessive) collector, and a pro at figuring out strategies for beating tamers and achievements, the PvP scene is completely different. It’s hard to compete, for example, against a team of undead cats, when Hallows End has been active for 2 days, and someone already got all the pets while you’ve been doing, well, other stuff. I believe the solution to this HAS to be a ranking system. JUST COPY IT FROM HEARTHSTONE – you must win a certain number of battles in a rank – say at levels 1-5, 6-10, 10-15, 15-19, 20-24, and finally 25. So, brackets with ranks.
  2. There are so so so so so many pets. A serious collector has well over 600 unique pets. I believe for PvP purposes, there should be a limit to how many can be active a certain week (or other time period). Kind of like a mixture between Hearthstone and Garrison Followers. In HS you have a limited amount of cards in a deck. I get that that’s sort of similar to a team of 3, but work with me. Like the follower system, you could nominate 20 pets to your PvP roster. You can swap out one or two a day for … pet tokens? gold? something like that. This would make it far more interesting, I think.
  3. Limit the amount of identical pets on a team to 2. And make them vary in at least one of their abilities.

Easy peasy. And a lot more fun!

Meeting the Menagerie

Meeting the Menagerie

Saturday night – time to reflect on the day’s pet acquisitions and relax a little. I leveled a few pets here and there today. Managed to find some elusive rare pets that have been more stubborn than others in Draenor. Worked on some Awfully Big Adventure. You know, crazy pet battle person stuff.

My favorite new discovery of the day is the Golden Dawnfeather. I raved about her on Twitter tonight too ( — I like her so much,  I had to get Helvette to introduce her to the Menagerie. Why oh why oh why can’t you have a menagerie till 100? And if you don’t have a level 3, you are seriously missing out. It’s my favorite thing about the whole place. If you have a stable you’ll sort of know what I mean. Like your mounts, your pets sort of rotate in the garrison – in a pen by the battle area usually, where they appear to be being fed.  But there are also always a few ‘wanderers’ – having a stroll around the place.

So, I took the as-yet-not-named-Dawnfeather to meet them all. Most of the current ‘patrol’ was studiously uninterested. The Kun Lai Runt was in a hurry to get somewhere, and the Tranquil Mechanical Yeti was definitely ignoring us. I think he’s feeling over worked.  But my blue moth was different! Her name is Clarice, by the way. She stayed with us – really close by chirping away to the new bird for a long time. I was up and down the hill trying to get screen shots as the others hurried past – but Clarice seemed to like her.

I have not yet introduced her to any of the cats.

Tranquilly right past

The Horde Hearthstone Tax

Gnome at work - Hearthstone

So, I’ve been playing this gnome. And I hope to go into way more detail about WHY  I would do such a thing very soon. Hoping. Because I have a lot to say about it. But, putting aside your incredulity, glee, or rage for the moment, can I direct your attention to the Hearthstone TABLE she is sitting at? Yes, it is a table. And it was just magically THERE at my level 1 Garrison! Helvette was overjoyed when she could PURCHASE, for ONE THOUSAND gold, the board when her Garrison was Level 3. And she has to sit on the cold snowy ground of the Horde Garrison.

I call Horde Tax shenanigans

It would be nice, though, if some of my followers and NPCs would actually PLAY.

Rock Lover

THAT, my friends is a Draenei Hunter. She was born in the Burning Crusade. She has been living in Deepholm for the good part of a year (possibly more). When she hit 83, I parked her there to get Exalted with those rock people. Then to get the Rock Lover Achievement.  Rescue Pebble 10 times? How hard can THAT be. Well. It’s a daily that SOMETIMES appears. Kittyne is today level 87. And TODAY she rescued Pebble for the 10th time. Finally.  I tweeted sometime in the fall that I only had one to go … I’d have to check my Twitter stream to be sure exactly when.

But I have him. He goes in the menagerie with everyone else.

Not sure what to do with Kittyne now. Tempted to have a look at the Alliance side of Draenor. As if I need MORE Garrison work!
